Here at Benfield Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) has been on our curriculum for the past 20 years!

However, as from September this year, MFL is a compulsory subject for all children at Keystage 2.As the school MFL co-ordinator I will be teaching French throughout each class in KS2 for 45 minutes weekly.

Amongst the areas covered are greetings, numbers, colours, animals, people and weather.

We will be using a scheme of work from “ilanguages” to support the teaching, which is a progressive scheme covering all the government requirements.

Below is a very useful BBC website which the children can use at home to support their learning:

www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primarylanguages/french

Year 2 will also be learning some simple Spanish as an introduction before they begin the full curriculum in year 3.

We are now using Linguascope to support childrens learning in school. To access this at home log on to www.linguascope.com
